Origins and History of the SENC Chapter AACA:
The chapter was first organized in Mount Olive as an antique car club under the name, Ole’ Lightning Rods. In 2002, the club became a chapter in the North Carolina Region AACA and was officially chartered under the name, Southeastern North Carolina Chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America. There are currently thirty-three (33) members in the SENC Chapter.
Since 2002, SENC Chapter members have been active in region and national AACA events. Several SENC Chapter members have served on the NC Region AACA Board of Directors. Currently one member, David Allen, serves as editor for the NC Region’s magazine, NC Region News. Some chapter members became certified as official AACA judges and served in that capacity at national meets, region meets and chapter antique car shows. Along with its annual AACA car shows, the SENC Chapter has hosted two NC Region meets in Mount Olive and participated in many other local shows and cruise-ins.
Shortly after its inception, the SENC Chapter established a scholarship endowment fund at the University of Mount Olive. Two scholarships are awarded annually to deserving students chosen by University officials. Chapter Meet on September 10, 2016. Each year the Chapter makes a contribution to the Endowment fund to ensure future growth of scholarships awarded. The chapter also provides funding to purchase equipment and tools for automotive programs at three Wayne County high schools. Funds to support our giving are derived from car show proceeds, car show sponsors and other fund raising efforts.
